I've been looking for a solution for weeks and have been hiring in the meantime. Multiple smaller units would be fine but finding them is a nightmare. You can see a couple of plates in my photostream if you're interested. Thankfully everyone has been so interested in the process they are prepared to wear the bright light. :-) Yes it can be a bit of an 'ouch'.but I can only do what I can do. Rather than going for very powerful flashes, can you not use multiple smaller units (in a single modifier if possible)? It seems Australia doesn't have what I need.very frustrating. If I can find 3200ws strobes I could move back to over 1m and use a beauty dish etc. I can get a good exposure with 1600ws that covers head and shoulders with the flash head 85cm from the sitters face (it's a bit of a hit in the face for them but when prepared it seems to be fine). Multiple flash and the headbrace sounds fine but not with the children and intellectually impaired that I need to shoot next in the series. Multiple flash exposures and a head brace? Paul Buff International will sell the Alien Bees but only up to 1600ws and the Einsteins don't go close to that. The only problem is that I live in Australia with a 240V system and there doesn't seem to be a dealer here. It doesn't need to be a pack and I agree, the WL X3200's would be perfect. Haha.no magnesium powder that far back, just window light and a headbrace.I use a headbrace myself.

got to play with them out their warehouse a few weeks ago. You could use what they did back then, magnesium powder.ĭoes it need to be a pack/head? WL X3200 are pretty damn powerful.ĭynalite makes some nice pack and head system,s for a reasonable price too. Originally posted at 6:27PM, 27 January 2012 PST This makes it hard to pick anything up second-hand and I just don't have $10000 to play with for the pack and heads. With digi cameras becoming noise-free at high iso's, manufacturers are mainly selling 800ws and below. My problem is that very few reach the output anymore. The second is substantially cheaper at this stage but I really need to know whether capacitors are still available and which was the higher-end model of its time.Īny suggestions for other packs would also be appreciated. The 2 packs available are:Ģ) Bowens Quadmatic 3k Asymmetric pack with 2 heads I'm looking at purchasing another asymmetric pack second-hand and don't know which of these packs is better in quality and price. A technique published in 1851 where you sensitise glass plates, directly expose in a large format camera and develop the plate while the plate is still wet. I'm using high powered flash for wet plate collodion photography.
